Living in Costa Rica - Christmas in Costa Rica

December 3, 2009 - Living in Costa Rica has been a great joy for my family and me.Even though we miss having the big Christmas gathering we have in the United States. We do enjoy Christmas in Costa Rica.

Christmas in Costa RicaOne of the reasons behind this is not just because my wife is from Costa Rica and I still get a nice family Christmas gathering; but also because they are many thing to enjoy during the Christmas season in Costa Rica.

This year, the city of San Jose is installing 600,000 Christmas lights throughout the city and the work will be done on Sunday, December 6, 2009. So if you are around, come out and see the grand ceremony which will take place Monday night.

As for things to do, I do recommend going to certain Christmas ceremonies like the lighting of the tree at the Children’s Hospital or to the lighting of the tree at the Children’s Museum. These two places will be full of activities during the day and will surely put you in a Christmas festive mood.

If you do not have any children, no problem because they are many other activities that are more adult oriented. For example, the Festival de la Luz can be enjoyed by both adults and children. The Festival de la Luz is a parade that is a sort of mix between Christmas and Mardi Gras that runs thru Paso Colon.

Another fun and exciting thing to do in Costa Rica during the Christmas holiday is the Zapote festival. This festival is kid friendly in the day time but at night, it’s more of a playground for the big kids. They are carnival rides available for all ages as a well as their famous bull ring where brave souls enter a ring with an angry bull and tap it on its behind to prove their manhood.

All-in-all, Costa Rica has much to offer during the Christmas season and if you would like more information about things to do in Costa Rica or buying a home in Costa Rica, please feel free to contact CR-home.com where we will happy to make your transition to Costa Rica even smoother.
